A New Mexico teen is now called a hero after he prevented three children from being kidnapped by pinning down the suspect until police arrived at the scene.
According to the Daily Mail, 16-year-old Canaan Bower, a junior at Mayfield High School witnessed 22-year-old Daniel Arroyo Beltran attempting to kidnap a mother’s three children after they got off a Greyhound bus in a Las Cruces station. The woman told police Beltran followed her then grabbed her two-year-old child and told her to hand over her other children. He punched the woman in the face and assaulted several others who came to her defense.

She ran into a Chucky’s store with her children but Beltran followed them shortly after. Bower came to the rescue after he heard screaming while pumping gas into his pickup truck. He grabbed Beltran and slammed him into the ground as told by his mother, Kara Garett Bower:
‘With no regards for his own safety Canaan grabbed the man and threw him to the ground, where he kept him pinned until the police arrived about five minutes later. There is a very good chance that Canaan saved many lives today and he definitely protected the kids from harm.’

Bower waited until police arrived at the scene and Beltran was subsequently arrested. He was charged with battery, assault, child abuse, and kidnapping and is currently held without bond.
