An influencer who decided to take on the toilet-licking challenge where folks lick the seats of public toilets — claims he has tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The social media star, known as Larz and goes by goes by ShawnMendes on Twitter, announced the diagnosis in a tweet, saying, “I tested positive for Coronavirus.” Along with the post, Larz included a video, obtained by The Daily Mail, which shows him lying in a hospital bed. His Twitter account has since been suspended.
As The New York Post notes, Larz, who is from California has previously appeared on the Dr. Phil show, where he drew a lot of criticism for boasting about how he’d licked tubs of ice cream before putting them back in store freezers, and claimed he made “lots of money” from his online following on social media.
For those who don’t know, the #ToiletChallenge first emerged earlier this month when TikTok user Ava Louise filmed herself licking an airplane toilet seat in a stunt she claims was meant to “troll” the media amid efforts to slow the spread of coronavirus.
As of right now, it is not exactly clear if he contracted the virus from licking the public toilets, person-to-person contact or the lack of social distancing.
