A New Jersey woman is facing several charges after she allegedly sold a homemade hand sanitizer that burned four children.
According to the New York Post, Manisha Bharade,47, sold the DIY hand sanitizer to cash in the coronavirus pandemic. Authorities issued the 7-Eleven owner a summons on several charges of endangering the welfare of children and manipulative business practices. She mixed the foaming sanitizer with water and sold the concoction inside the convenient store.
A statement released by State Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said condemned Bharade’s actions and that she will face the consequences for selling the item in her store:

“Let me be perfectly clear: If you try to take advantage of our residents during a public health emergency, we will hold you accountable. Retailers who try to make a quick buck by exploiting others will face civil and criminal consequences.”

The four boys, aged 10 and 11, were left with burns after trying Bharade’s hand sanitizer. The 10-year-old victim was hospitalized after sustaining severe burns on his leg and arm. He is expected to make a full recovery. Fourteen of the products were sold to customers and five bottles were handed into River Bale police.
A rep from the police department said the authorities do not believe Bharade intended to hurt anyone:
“She wasn’t trying to make a lot of money and obviously didn’t mean to hurt anybody. But she’s no chemist.”
