School Resource Officer Caught On Camera Choking High School Student

An Arkansas school resource officer is currently suspended after he was caught on camera choking a high school student.

As reported by The Root, the video was captured by Auriana Mitchell where it shows school resource officer Jake Perry choking an African-American male student at  Camden Fairview High School on Monday. The video shows Perry wrapping his arms around the teen’s neck and lifting him off of the ground. Camden Police Department Chief Boyd Woody said in a statement that Perry is indefinitely suspended:

“I was shown a video of Officer Jake Perry in an altercation with what appears to be a student. Officer Perry is assigned to the High School as a School Resource Officer. Effective immediately, Officer Perry has been relieved of duty pending an investigation. As the Police Chief, I will not tolerate misconduct from my officers and this matter will be dealt with accordingly and I will be transparent in doing so.”

Camden Fairview District Superintendent Fred Lily released a statement regarding the incident and said he is fully cooperating with the investigation.
