Imagine living your life, grinding for decades, and out of nowhere it gets rocked by baseless sexual assault allegations that don’t just come for your name but affect your family, your business, your peace. That’s exactly what Jay-Z had to go through. And now we know it was all for nothing.
The woman who accused him has fully recanted, filing a sworn 12-page declaration admitting there was no truth to any of it. Her own words: “Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter never raped me. I have never met or spoken to Mr. Carter. Mr. Carter never engaged in any inappropriate conduct toward me whatsoever.”
She went further, saying flat out, “There is no truth to any of my claims against Mr. Carter,” and acknowledging that her false accusations caused him “immense pain, suffering, and damage that can never be fully undone.”
As we previously reported, the woman who went under as Jane Doe claimed that Jay-Z and Diddy assaulted her at an MTV VMAs after-party when she was just 13. When she made that claim in 2024, of course it made headlines, and it came at the worst time. His attorneys immediately called BS once the allegations hit and it turned out to be exactly that. However, Jay took a huge hit over those false claims. His legal team said the fallout cost him and his label nearly $200 million in business deals.
To make matters worse, it affected him mentally as well. Jay-Z himself put words to what that pressure felt like, describing the situation with Buzbee this way: “I felt that (Attorney Mr. Buzbee) was placing a gun to my head that I either bow to his demands or endure personal and financial ruin. His actions caused me mental anguish about the ticking time bomb and what it would do to me, my family, and my hard-earned reputation.”
Her new attorney says she still believes she was a victim of assault at some point, just says she got the wrong man. Maybe that’s true. Maybe something happened to her and this was a tragic misidentification. But that doesn’t undo what Jay-Z lived through for two years behind a claim that, by her own sworn word, had no truth to it at all.
Buzbee said to Rolling Stone he had not seen Jane Doe’s new declaration. “We have multiple lawyers (at least four) who dealt with Ms. Doe long before she met me. She gave the exact same story to each. If for some reason now she is claiming she lied to us and the court, that’s new information,” he wrote.
Jay has not yet released a statement regarding Jane Doe recanting her story. However, hopefully this will bring him some peace.
