A new lawsuit finds Atlanta Hip-Hop group Outkast suing rapper Ovrkast. for having a “nearly identical” stage name and for infringing on the legendary duo’s “famous and extremely valuable” brand.
On Tuesday (September 22), AllHipHop reported that Outkast — comprised of Big Boi and André 3000 — is taking Ovrkast. to court for ignoring their private name change deal. Ovrkast. is a rapper and producer, whose real name is Silas Wilson.
Outkast’s trademark company, High Schoolers LLC, is named as the plaintiff in the lawsuit and Wilson as the defendant. In the complaint, filed in a federal court in Georgia, Wilson is accused of “trademark infringement, unfair competition, and breaching an agreement requiring him to abandon OVRKAST by July 15, 2026.” Outkast said Wilson agreed to replace his stage name with “OVERKXST.” However, he allegedly delayed the paperwork and proposed two previously-rejected alternatives.
Furthermore, Outkast highlighted Wilson’s own words from a July 2025 Rolling Stone interview. The legendary Hip-Hop group said Ovrkast. himself admitted to confusion existing over his name. In the interview, he said:
“The worst thing I get is like, ‘The n***a think he Outkast.’ It’s like, ‘No, bro. I wasn’t even thinking about Outkast.’ Mad n***as do that sh*t. They read Ovrkast [as] Outkast. They’re like, ‘Oh my God, I thought they said Outkast.’ And it’s like, it don’t, so….”

In the filing, Outkast said they sent Wilson an August 5 breach notice, along with an August 11 deadline to comply. However, he has continued to use the “confusing” and “Infringing” stage name. The complaint reads:
“Defendant still has not cured his breach and continues to use the OVRKAST mark. Defendant continues to use the OVRKAST mark with knowledge of Plaintiff’s rights in the famous OUTKAST mark, with knowledge that consumers associate OVRKAST with OUTKAST, and with knowledge that doing so is in breach of the Settlement Agreement.”
Outkast is seeking a jury trial and is asking a court to permanently ban Wilson from performing or selling, and in general using his “Ovrkast.” stage name, or similar trademark across music, merchandise, websites, asocial media accounts, and promotional materials. Additionally, the Hip-Hop duo is seeking Wilson’s profits as Ovrkast., plus damages, legal costs, and destruction of clothing or marketing materials carrying his stage name.
