It looks like U.S. Customs & Border Protection officials are cracking down on egg smuggling at the U.S. and Mexico Border as egg smuggling has soared to 108% as egg prices soar themselves.

Besides the usual shipments of guns and drugs being confiscated the U.S. – Mexico boarder, customs agents are now intercepting another hot commodity — huevos!
Apparently, traffickers have been attempting to sneak thousands of eggs across the border per week amid the skyrocketing prices of the chicken offspring. In certain parts of America, some grocery stores are charging a whopping $8 per dozen of eggs.

Subsequently, Customs and Border Protection officials have since reported an uptick of 108% in egg seizures within the last three months of 2022.
In a new Border Report update, it has been noted that violators could end up looking at a hefty fine of up to $10,000 if busted.

The Director of Field Operations in San Diego, Jennifer De La O, even had to remind people over on Twitter about the consequences.
De La O wrote, “The San Diego Field Office has recently noticed an increase in the number of eggs intercepted at our ports of entry. As a reminder, uncooked eggs are prohibited entry from Mexico into the U.S. Failure to declare agriculture items can result in penalties of up to $10,000.”
Elsewhere, it has been reported that 2022’s bird flu outbreaks — which resulted in over 57 million U.S. birds dying or being culled, has only added to the growing prices of eggs.
The flu’s damaging results coupled with inflation has more than doubled egg prices. In January 2022, the average price of a dozen of large eggs was a mere $1.93. By December 2022, the average price had jumped all the way up to $4.25 per dozen.
Meanwhile, down in Mexico, 30 eggs will run a customer about $3. It is reported that down in Juarez, Mexico, shoppers can grab a mega-carton of 30 eggs for about $3.40.
