As we previously shared, Coxon walked away from his researcher job at Anthropic — one of the biggest artificial intelligence companies in motion. However, Coxon didn’t put in his notice and leave quietly. Instead, he left with a warning to all.
Before making headlines, Coxon spent over three years working in the Artificial Intelligence industry. He has not only worked for Anthropic, but also another big AI kahuna, OpenAI. But as Coxon ended his tenure at Anthropic, he shared a lengthy message on his X account.

On Tuesday (September 8), he warned of the dangers to come within the fast-developing AI field. A coworker, safety lead Evan Hubinger, also agreed with Coxon.
Following Coxon’s viral departure at Anthropic, his boss is reacting. Amodei isn’t negating his former employee’s comments. Instead, he echoes them and pushes for changes in the AI developmental space. On Saturday (September 12), Amodei took to his X account and shared his thoughts. He urged, “We must pace the frontier.”
In his statement, Dario Amodei called on fellow AI companies to slow down on development in the AI industry. Amodei’s post was later quote retweeted by fellow AI titan Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Amodei continued to share his message with CNN’s Anderson Cooper. He again reacted to Coxon’s concerns about AI and humanity and continued to call for regulation in the AI industry.
