With Halloween fast approaching, people are already putting their outfits together for the festive occasion. But this year, there appears to be a wide demand for Jeffrey Dahmer-like apparel following the enormous success of the recently-released Netflix series, “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.” Countless people have taken to Twitter to show off their Dahmer-inspired outfits, and it’s understandably left a lot of people outraged.

As previously revealed, “Monster” has become the second most-watched English-speaking series on Netflix, accumulating over 700 million hours in viewing figures in just three weeks since its premiere, so it’s fair to say that with its worldwide popularity, people are feeling inspired to dress as the notorious former Milwaukee serial killer. But not everyone has been amused by the somewhat questionable choice of wear from those dressing as Dahmer this year.

“Y’all honestly taking things too far now. Who in their right mind would willingly want to walk the streets wearing a Dahmer outfit for Halloween? Y’all are asking to be jumped,” one user wrote, while another contended, “Dahmer isn’t ok because he was a real person, but Freddy, Jason & Michael Myers are ok because they’re fiction? What??”

But the conversation didn’t stop there. A group of people actually backed the second tweet, saying that if those who celebrate Halloween can dress up as serial killers from fictional movies such as “Halloween” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” there shouldn’t be an issue going as Dahmer, even though his story is actually based on true events.

Another Twitter user then tried to argue that drawing comparisons between a fictional character and a real-life murderer were completely out of line, expressing, “Yes, theres a difference between a real person that tortured, murdered, and ate real people with real families and lives versus a fake movie character that kills fake movie people where nobody in the real world was actually killed.”

“Then you won’t care if someone dresses up as Hitler or a kkk member right? Because last time I checked you said it’s ‘just a costume,’” another person chimed in. “How is this costume any different for any of the other sick and sadistic costumes out there that people wear that commit crimes. It’s no different! People need to get over themselves.”

Socialites, we’re curious to know what you’ll be dressed as for Halloween this year, and do you agree with the outrage over people choosing to go as Dahmer?
