Faizon Love is chiming in on the controversy following Fat Joe and the Puerto Rican and Cuban rapper’s claim to be “the Blackest n***a” ever seen. The comedian and actor says, “I’m not defending Fat Joe, but I know this to be true. The Bronx, you gotta say it like that. The Bronx, the Bronx is a different kind of place.”

Fat Joe Claims He’s ‘The Blackest N***a’ Ever
Fat Joe shared the comment on a recent episode of ‘The Joe Budden Podcast.’ Joe was born Joseph Antonio Cartagena and is of Puerto Rican and Cuban descent. He was born and raised in South Bronx, New York. He grew up in a multicultural neighborhood where Black and Latino people lived and built Hip-Hop culture together.
Since stepping into the rap game, Fat Joe has always been proud about his multicultural roots. And, he has always said the n-word in music and everyday dialogue. But every now and then, the internet forces him to repeatedly explain his deep-rooted connection to Black culture.
When asked on Joe Budden‘s podcast about his use of the n-word and representation of Hip-Hop and Black American culture, Joe made a bold comment. He again explained how he grew up on the block where Hip-Hop was created. After sharing his credentials, Joe declared:
“You think I’m not going to defend what I know to be true? I am Black. Fat Joe is the Blackest n***a you ever seen in your life. Go look it up.”
Marc Lamont Hill — who also co-hosts the JBP but skipped Joe’s interview — ended up taking to his own platform to slam Fat Joe and insist he’s not Black. Joe corrected Marc on Hollywood Unlocked’s post. He clarified, “My dad is Afro Cuban. I love this guy.”
Faizon Love Defends Fat Joe’s Argument About Puerto Ricans Growing Up In The Bronx With Black People
While chiming in on the conversation, comedian and actor Faizon Love had this to say:
“Listen, I’m not defending Fat Joe, but I know this to be true. The Bronx is a different kind of place. Puerto Ricans and Blacks have been together in the Bronx 60s, 50s. If you lived in the Bronx, next door neighbor is either going to be Black or Puerto Rican. Guaranteed. What I’m saying is the Puerto Ricans and Blacks go together like beans and rice. It’s a different thing in the Bronx. It’s a different thing.
It ain’t an act. It’s like even in Hip-Hop, they was trying to say, ‘F**k yeah, Rubie Dee is my name and I’m a Puerto Rican. You might think I’m Black by the way I’m speaking.’ It ain’t on them it’s in them. They was raised side by side. You ever lived in the Bronx? You know this. It’s not an act. They say that ’cause they n***as. They n***as. They was treated like n***as. When it’s time to swing, they gonna swing too.
I know everything ain’t f**king racial. Some things are cultural. This is a cultural thing and it’s the Bronx. ‘Rubie Dee is my name and I’m a Puerto Rican. You might think I’m Black by the way I’m…’ That’s one of the founding fathers of Hip-Hop. Puerto Rican. It’s a lot. I can’t even name. Whipper Whip. I can’t even name. I can’t even name. Do you know who Whipper Whip is? You don’t know.
Being Black is not a skin color. Being Black is a culture. You got to eat it and live it. A lot of people think you’re born Black. You’re born with a skin color. That’s not Black. Stephen A. Smith…No, I’m just kidding. No. But no, it’s not. It ain’t what you think it is. Say it with me, ‘Boricua. Mo[rena]. Boricua.’ You know what a Boricua is? JLo [Jennifer Lopez]. From the Bronx. You think she don’t say n***a? When we were dating… When me and JLo … Me, Kim Fields, and JLo… It’s a long story…”
