Shannon Marie Morgan,38, was arrested last week after police responded to an animal cruelty complaint. The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that deputies found glass aquariums containing snakes and noted the floor was slippery due to the feces and urine throughout Morgan’s home. Additionally, a child was present during the search and the home smelled of ammonia.

According to TOO FAB, one of the bedrooms had two cages which contained a ferret and a dog, Officers said the animals were deprived of food and water, and the second bedroom had a mattress covered in roaches. Officials said they witnessed multiple cats tearing apart a rat in the child’s bedroom. The third bedroom had over 300 rats in addition to 50 other rodents who were contained in cages. After calling in reinforcements, Animal Control removed seven cats and one dog before continuing on with the investigation.
The arrest affidavit said Morgan did not live at the residence but she visited the home every night. During an interview with investigators, she said she knew the conditions of the home were getting worse but didn’t call for help until that week and noted that she didn’t want to live there anymore. Sheriff Mike Prendergast said officials were cautious about entering the home based on the environment and deplorable conditions.
