The House of Botswana commemorated the 60th anniversary of Botswana’s independence by hosting a special exhibition titled “60 Jewels of Botswana: The Diamond Story” in New York. This exhibition celebrated the country’s rich diamond heritage and showcased its vision for the future of the global diamond industry.

As part of the Presidential Diamond Jubilee Celebration, the event featured jewelry industry leaders, designers, investors, cultural figures, and media members for an evening focused on the story of Botswana’s natural diamonds. Rather than focusing solely on the gemstones themselves, the exhibition highlighted how diamond revenues have helped transform Botswana over the past six decades by supporting education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development.

President Duma Boko Shares Vision for the Future

A highlight of the evening was a fireside conversation between President Duma Gideon Boko and TIME CEO Jessica Sibley, where the president expressed confidence in the future of the natural diamond industry despite recent market challenges.

“Beware of the power of the bounce back,” President Boko said. “The sparkling, scintillating stone is bouncing back!”

The event also featured remarks from Minister of Minerals and Energy Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, who outlined Botswana’s long-term strategy to expand beyond diamond mining into manufacturing, branding, design, technology, and ownership throughout the global diamond supply chain.

“Our first 60 years proved that natural diamonds, when responsibly managed, can help build a nation. Our next 60 years must demonstrate that a diamond-producing nation can help shape the future of the entire global industry,” Kenewendo said.

She added that House of Botswana represents more than a promotional campaign, describing it as Botswana’s platform to introduce its people, businesses, and creativity to the world.

Stars and Industry Leaders Attend the Celebration

The exhibition also drew notable figures from music, fashion, business, and hospitality.

Guests included Styles P and Adjua Styles, Consequence, Melba Wilson, Maiya Da Don, and Maliibu Miitch, reflecting House of Botswana’s mission to bring the country’s diamond story into broader cultural conversations beyond the traditional jewelry industry.

By blending luxury, culture, and economic growth, the event highlighted Botswana’s initiatives to engage new audiences while emphasizing the enduring significance and origin of natural diamonds.

As House of Botswana looks ahead, “60 Jewels of Botswana: The Diamond Story” serves as both a celebration of the nation’s past and an invitation for the world to engage with Botswana’s next chapter.
