A Fayetteville, Georgia auto shop is facing a lawsuit from the federal government after paying a former employee his final paycheck in pennies.

The U.S. Department of Labor filed the lawsuit on Dec. 30 in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, claiming A OK Walker Autoworkers and the owner Miles Walker discriminated against a former employee. Back in March 2021, the former employee, Andreas Flaten, reportedly called the Department of Labor to complain against Walker for not providing his final paycheck. After learning about the complaint, Walker decided to pay Flaten in pennies.
Flaten discovered 91,500 pennies were left in his driveway with a copy of his paycheck with “an expletive written on the outside,” the suit reads. Additionally, the pennies were covered in an oily substance.

According to NBC News, it was also discovered by the federal government that A OK Autoworks also failed to pay their employees for overtime work in 2019.
“[A OK Autoworks] failed to make, keep and preserve adequate and accurate records of the persons employed and of the wages, hours and other conditions and practices of employment maintained by them,”
The company also reportedly mocked the situation after it made news last year and even dedicated a “Pennies” page in response.
