Apple Expects iPhone Shortage & Profit Loss After Coronavirus Outbreak

If you’ve got stock with Apple, you may want to begin following closely. The company is now blaming the coronavirus outbreak for slowed iPhone production and lack of sales, heading into Q2.

Today, the company stated that it does not expect to meet its second-quarter revenue forecast ($63-67B), citing global supply constraints for iPhones and lower Chinese demand, resulting from the deadly outbreak.

While they didn’t provide the new forecast, in its statement released online, they said that the outbreak disrupted manufacturing, however, “work is starting to resume around [China], but we are experiencing a slower return to normal conditions than we had anticipated.”

They added, “We are gradually reopening our retail stores [in China] and will continue to do so as steadily and safely as we can.

Read the full letter to investors that Apple released Monday:

As the public health response to COVID-19 continues, our thoughts remain with the communities and individuals most deeply affected by the disease, and with those working around the clock to contain its spread and to treat the ill. Apple is more than doubling our previously announced donation to support this historic public health effort.

Our quarterly guidance issued on January 28, 2020 reflected the best information available at the time as well as our best estimates about the pace of return to work following the end of the extended Chinese New Year holiday on February 10. Work is starting to resume around the country, but we are experiencing a slower return to normal conditions than we had anticipated. As a result, we do not expect to meet the revenue guidance we provided for the March quarter due to two main factors.

The first is that worldwide iPhone supply will be temporarily constrained. While our iPhone manufacturing partner sites are located outside the Hubei province — and while all of these facilities have reopened — they are ramping up more slowly than we had anticipated. The health and well-being of every person who helps make these products possible is our paramount priority, and we are working in close consultation with our suppliers and public health experts as this ramp continues. These iPhone supply shortages will temporarily affect revenues worldwide.

The second is that demand for our products within China has been affected. All of our stores in China and many of our partner stores have been closed. Additionally, stores that are open have been operating at reduced hours and with very low customer traffic. We are gradually reopening our retail stores and will continue to do so as steadily and safely as we can. Our corporate offices and contact centers in China are open, and our online stores have remained open throughout.

Outside of China, customer demand across our product and service categories has been strong to date and in line with our expectations.

The situation is evolving, and we will provide more information during our next earnings call in April. Apple is fundamentally strong, and this disruption to our business is only temporary. Our first priority — now and always — is the health and safety of our employees, supply chain partners, customers and the communities in which we operate. Our profound gratitude is with those on the front lines of confronting this public health emergency.

Virginia Gun Control: Lawmakers Reject Assault Weapons Ban

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam‘s gun control proposal, banning the sale of assault weapons, is no longer after his fellow Democrats rejected his top priority  legislation.

It seems as though the Senate Judiciary Committee have paused the idea for 2020, instead, they encouraged the state crime commission to further look into the proposal banning some semiautomatic firearm and accessories sales and possession of magazines with more than 12 rounds.

Governor spokeswoman Alena Yarmosky stated, “While the Governor is disappointed in today’s vote, he fully expects the Crime Commission to give this measure the detailed review that Senators called for. We will be back next year.”

Supporters of the bill, like the Kris Brown, president of gun-control group the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, says, “This was not the outcome we wanted, but (the Senate Judiciary Committee) can rest assured that they will hear from us, from advocates and from everyday Virginians in the intervening months about why we need to ban assault weapons in Virginia.

While VA Democrats argued that the ban and other measures would make its citizens safer, Republicans pushed back even stronger, claiming the proposal was an affront to the Second Amendment.

Thousands of gun supporters are said to have rallied in Richmond for weeks, wielding assault style weapons; which caused Northam to declare a sate of emergency and ban weapons at the state capitol’s grounds.

However, the protests continued peacefully and without incidents.

Instagram Model Banned From Tinder For Being ‘Too Hot’

Los Angeles-based Instagram model Holly Valentine claims she signed up for a premium account with popular dating app Tinder and they’ve since banned her for being “too hot.” Now, she wants her money back and an explanation.

Valentine, who was charged $86, says the app restricted her premium access after matches kept reporting her account as fake; calling her a catfish, claiming someone of her “status” couldn’t possibly be using Tinder.

Valentine tells The Sun“I used clean pictures, did everything I was supposed to, swiped right on a couple people, I got some matches and then started binge-watching ‘Game of Thrones.’ Then after a couple hours I went back on saw a couple previews of messages and then got locked out of the app. The previews that I did see were ‘you’re probably not real,’ ‘why would a girl like you be on Tinder.’ I didn’t even get to meet anyone or even really use the app.”

She adds, “I figured I must have gotten flagged on there so I contacted Tinder and Apple asking for a refund. Tinder gave me no response and Apple said refunds are up to the discretion of the app. Tinder isn’t agreeing to it but they won’t tell us why.”

Valentine eventually went live on IG, fighting for justice, venting, “The second you pay someone for something, I’m sorry… I’m ok with them kicking me off, but they have a contractual obligation to tell me why they’re taking my money and not refunding me. I really think it’s unfair of them to be like, ‘Hey we’re going to take $86 from you.'”
