Though the company initially wanted to rollout a spin-off on its Disney+ streaming platform, Variety reports that the sequel is set for a theatrical release; with a hopeful return of its stars, Will SmithMena Massoud and Naomi Scott.

Additionally, Straight Outta Compton scriptwriter Andrea Berloff and Flight scriptwriter John Gatins are set to lend their talents on the upcoming feature.

Furthermore, with all of the success of the live-action remake, critics found it odd that the lead actor Mena Massoud claimed he hadn’t booked any auditions since the May 24, 2019 release.

Included in that list of billion-dollar-hitters for Disney last year were: the live-action remake of ‘The Lion King;’ ‘Toy Story 4;‘ and ‘Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame.’
