Tiffany Boone Addresses ‘The Chi’ Exit & Jason Mitchell Harassment Accusations

The Chi‘ actor Tiffany Boone is breaking her silence on why she exited the show in fall of 2018 and the harassment accusations she placed against co-star Jason Mitchell.

In an open letter to Instagram, Boone says, “I’d heard whispers that my previous co-star had been fired from a new project and subsequently fired from the show we worked on together. I knew that there were rumors and accusations swirling, but I did not think that the media, or for that matter social media, would make me the focus of any stories.”

She adds, “You don’t carelessly leave a ‘hit show’ that is praised by your community. I deeply love Chicago and the people of that city who have embraced me. I felt honored and privileged to be part of telling their story. The weight of what I was leaving behind felt like a ton, but the weight of my responsibility to speak up was even heavier. There were people who questioned my decision. How could I be sure I would work again, especially on a project of that magnitude? I wasn’t sure, but I had faith that once I took that leap I could be guided wherever I was supposed to go.”

Boone’s exit from the show followed multiple complaints about Mitchell’s on-set behavior. In her 3-page letter, Boone concludes by stating that she sometimes wishes she could become “blissfully ignorant” again; so to avoid the ill wishes and negative effects it had on her and her career shortly after.
