Tyrese has made it clear he doesn’t want to pay spousal support in the amount of $20,000 a month to his estranged wife, Samantha Lee Gibson, who pulled the plug on their marriage back in late 2020. The pair were going back and forth in court on Monday to hash out who gets to keep what from their marriage, as Tyrese’s lawyers grilled his ex about some of her past expenses dating two years back, where she apparently spent up to $1,740 on cosmetics.
The argument was made in support of the R&B singer and actor who thinks that giving Samantha a whopping $20k in monthly spousal support was “unreasonably high,” though he did say he’d be willing to have her keep their 2017 Land Rover Discovery while he retains the 2016 Range Rover at the Atlanta property they once shared together.

According to TMZ, Tyrese, who was married to Samantha for three years, after tying the knot in 2017, wants to avoid paying spousal support altogether, while requesting joint physical and legal custody of their three-year-old daughter, Soraya Gibson. On top of that, the “F9” actor stressed that he would also want the final say on any medical emergencies pertaining to their child.
Samantha had previously claimed that just weeks before she filed legal documents to put a motion in place to divorce her husband of three years, Tyrese had allegedly changed the locks to their home, subsequently leaving her and Soraya out of the home they once shared as a family. She also accused him of cutting her off from receiving any financial support from him, two allegations which Tyrese has vehemently denied.
After his split from Samantha, the 43-year-old hopped onto social media, expressing that he believed “being raised in broken homes with no example of what being a husband or father is” had greatly contributed to the demise of the couple’s relationship, adding that “black families and marriage are under attack.”

“I’ve wrestled with this question. How can we naturally know how to BE something we never raised by? How can we naturally know how to BE something we were never raised by? I pray we leave the door open because the God that we serve is a mountains mover and can make a way out of now way.”
At the time, Tyrese believed that he and Samantha would carry on as “the best of friends and strong co-parents,” but the drama unfolding in court seems to indicate otherwise.
