Donald Trump is still mentioning Iran coming for Los Angeles and San Diego for a second and third time, despite public backlash for his initial mention. Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom is slamming Trump’s attempts to scare Americans into voting red during the looming 2026 midterms.

As we previously shared, Trump made his controversial comments during a campaign rally. While standing on stage at the Pinnacle Bank Expo Center in Grand Island, Nebraska on Monday evening (October 5), Trump invited Iran to “take out” Los Angeles and San Diego. He said:

“And again, remember with the war, it’s just artificial. It’s a little bit high. It’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They can take out a city. Let them take, let it, let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. That’s, this is a very small price to pay, and it’s gonna be over very soon. It’s essentially almost over with.”

When reporters later asked about his comments, Trump straight up ignored them. Meanwhile, the White House said his remarks were misunderstood. They argued that Trump was using a retrospective warning to state that American cities would have been targeted by a nuclear-armed Iran if his administration hadn’t aggressively intervened earlier this year.

However, CA Gov. Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria — and even a former state Attorney General and Senator (Kamala Harris) — slammed a “treasonous” Trump and his “spineless” administration.

Despite their criticism, Trump doubled down and made mention of Iran, LA, and SD again. This time, he was at a rally in San Antonio, Texas on Wednesday (October 7). He was campaigning for Texas Senator candidate Ken Paxton. Trump said:

“You wanna see trauma? You wanna see problems? I said it the other day. ‘Let them hit a missile into San Diego or Los Angeles on the way. Let them hit.’ You want to see a horror show? You want to see problems? Let them hit San Diego. Let them hit Los Angeles if you want to see some bad things happen. You want to see a country that would be in free fall? We’re not going to let that happen. We protect our cities. We protect our country. We’re not letting that happen.”

Donald Trump Mentions Iran, LA, And San Diego For Third Time Despite Criticism

Backstage of the rally, Trump again mentioned Iran, Los Angeles, and San Diego while speaking with Fox San Antonio (KABB). During his interview, Trump said:

“The thing is, I had to do Iran because they would have had a nuclear weapon and then you would have found out what problem. I say it all the time, ‘Let’s see what would happen if they ever did something to Los Angeles or San Diego.’ Those seem to be the most prominent because of location. And I’m talking about through missiles. That would be terrible if a thing like that were to happen. And you want to see problems? Let them hit Los Angeles. Or let them hit a place like San Diego. Let them hit one of our major cities. That’s called a problem.”

Following Trump doubling down, California Governor Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria again condemned him. Amid the criticism, Trump took to Truth Social and fired off about the “fake news.”  On Thursday (October 8), he wrote:

“The Fake and Artificial News is out there trying to say that I’m inviting the enemy to bomb San Diego and Los Angeles when, in actuality, what I was talking about was that a temporary increase in the price of Gasoline is a small price to pay for Iran not having a Nuclear Weapon and, if you want to see a big price, can you imagine what it would be like if they bombed San Diego and/or Los Angeles? All I was doing was making a comparison between paying a little more, for a short time, for Gasoline, versus the bombing of our Major Cities. Everybody knew that, the Fake News knew it as well, but they continue to go out and say that I am asking the enemy to bomb two Cities that I love. It’s totally clear what I say but, these people are Degenerates, and think they can continuously get away with Fake News! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
