Trump’s campaign indicated that it is too early to agree to a vice presidential debate because there is uncertainty over whether Biden will be the Democratic nominee.

Earlier today, the Trump campaign announced that it would not commit to proposed dates for a vice presidential debate until after the Democratic National Convention, which is set to begin on August 19. Brian Hughes, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, explained that it wouldn’t make sense to confirm a debate date for the vice presidential candidate due to the increasing number of Democrats calling for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the race.NBC News reported.
“We don’t know who the Democrat nominee for Vice President is going to be, so we can’t lock in a date before their convention. To do so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate,” he explained.

As previously reported, former President Trump names Sen. JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate on Monday. Vance is set to accept the Republican nomination for vice president at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday. Harris’ team criticized the Trump campaign amid thier announcement as they previously claimed he would debate at anytime.
“Now suddenly right after a damning new leak showing his support for a nationwide abortion ban, Vance is backing off a debate against Vice President Harris, who has spent the last two years prosecuting the case on behalf of reproductive freedom. This debate has been discussed for two months now. If JD Vance is unwilling to defend the Trump-Vance record on the debate stage, he should just say so,” said Harris’ communication director Brian Fallon.
