Sheesh! Miami rap legend Trick Daddy went nuclear on singers India Arie ad Nicci Gilbert, and others condemning Yung Miami’s viral chart-climbing song of the Summer, “Spend Dat.”
As we previously shared, R&B singer Nicci Gilbert initially called out the track’s lyrical content back on June 21. She shared her comments during an episode of her YouTube series, “Diary Of A Diva.” In the nearly 1-hour-long video, Gilbert talked about the song’s messaging and cultural influence.
After watching Miami’s standing ovation at the 2026 BET Awards this past Sunday, Gilbert again spoke out about the song on July 1. She insisted that “A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) and ratchet-a**, ghetto-a**, low vibrational-a** music” is plaguing our communities. She also said that she is a voter at the Recording Academy and hopes she can try and stop the song from being nominated for a Grammy.
India Arie Condemns Yung Miami’s “Spend Dat”
However, Nicci Gilbert wasn’t the only singer to slam the Miami rapper. R&B and Neo-Soul songstress India Arie also condemned the track on June 30. She reacted to social users on Threads, who were calling for a boycott. While Arie denied calling for a boycott, she did slam Miami’s lyrics.
The critical commenter wrote:
“I’m calling for a boycott of Yung Miami’s song ’Spend Dat.’ I believe it’s degrading to our culture. At some point, we have to take seriously the power music has over our perception and the values it reinforces. This can’t be the song of the Summer.”
India Arie replied:
“I spent my entire adult life caring way too much because I finally learned that not everybody cares (with a capital C). And explaining it to them is not going to make them care. Everything you listen to or eat is going to influence you. So, make wise choices, y’all.”
Another critical commenter continued to mention Yung Miami’s character statement for Diddy. India Arie replied to the second user and said:
“I finally realized that not everybody wants to get free. And it was a very, very, very rude awakening. Smh. Because the mass acceptance of this song is a crystal clear sign of this much bigger truth.”
She again commented a similar statement that read, “I finally realized that not everybody wants to get free. And it was a very, very, very rude awakening.”

After Arie’s comments, Yung Miami’s “Spend Dat” producer, J White Did It hopped into the conversation to defend their song. On July 1, he posted a video of himself in the studio, where he remixed India Arie’s “Video” with “Spend Dat.” Hours later, on July 2, Arie took to her Instagram with a video to continue clarifying her stance on the matter.
Since then, Trick Daddy has come to Miami’s defense. On July 2, he went live on Instagram and went completely nuclear on the “old raggedy h*es” being “mad and jealous.” He continued to tell every one of Miami’s last critics to “leave her alone.”
