Serena Williams shocked fans earlier this month after she announced her second pregnancy at the star-studded Met Gala event. While it was exciting news for her supporters, Williams is now sharing how she and her husband Alexis Ohanian told their precious daughter, Olympia.
In a YouTube video posted to her channel, the 41-year-old showed herself and Ohanian sitting on a couch with Olympia and telling her that her dreams of becoming a big sister are about to come true. “Olympia does not know right now that I am pregnant. But she did call me fat and then she got really stressed out,” she joked. “She was like, ‘Mommy, you’re fat.’ I try not to take it personal ’cause I’m, like, super into fitness, but I’m like, ‘Um, am I.”
When Williams finally breaks the big news, the super adorable Olympia immediately lights up:
“Remember how you’ve been praying for a little sister or brother?” Williams asked her mini-me.
“Well, we went to the doctor, and it turns out I’m not getting fat but I have a baby in my belly.” Olympia responded, “Are you kidding me?” before hugging her mom. Filled with so much joy and excitement, the 5-year-old then squealed and says, “Oh my god, I’m so excited.”
The youngster was so thrilled that she ended up running out of framing and tripping over herself off-camera but she confirmed to her parents,
“I’m OK.” Her dad then explained, “You’ve got to do a lot of work getting ready to be a big sister.” Of course, Olympia is all in!

The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion told reporters at the New York fashion show there were “three of us” as she walked the red carpet when she arrived with her husband Alexis Ohanian.
The news didn’t come as a big shock to fans because before she retired from tennis last year, the Olympic gold medalist penned an essay for Vogue explaining her decision to step away from sports and focus on expanding her family.
“I have never liked the word retirement. It doesn’t feel like a modern word to me,” Williams wrote in a Vogue essay. “I’ve been thinking of this as a transition, but I want to be sensitive about how I use that word, which means something very specific and important to a community of people. Maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution. I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me,” she said in her Vogue piece.
She also mentioned at the time that her daughter, Olympia, wanted to be a big sister — “I’m the youngest of five sisters myself, and my sisters are my heroes, so this has felt like a moment I need to listen very carefully to,” Williams wrote.
Further into her essay, she sent a little goodbye message to her loyal fans, “Please know that I am more grateful for you than I can ever express in words,” Williams said. “You have carried me to so many wins and so many trophies. I’m going to miss that version of me, that girl who played tennis. And I’m going to miss you.”
