Gov. Andrew Cuomo has proposed the ‘Say Their Name’ reform agenda during a press briefing on Friday. The proposal was created to help ease racially motivated attacks and police reform for New York.

The proposal was announced amid the viral video showing Buffalo police showing an elderly protestor to the ground, and Cuomo said New York should lead the way as a “progressive capital.” He says: “Mr. Floyd’s murder was the breaking point of a long list of deaths that were unnecessary and which were abusive. That is a fact, and people are saying ‘enough is enough.’”

The reform agenda calls for false race-based 911 calls to be classified as a hate crime, no chokehold, easier access to police officers’ disciplinary records, and assigning the state’s attorney general to be made an independent prosecutor for police murders.

“Reform works for everyone’s interest here. Stopping police abuse vindicates the overwhelming majority – 99.9% – of police who are there to do the right thing and do the right thing every day. “It restores the confidence, respect, and the trust that you need to make this relationship work.”
