As we previously shared, on Sunday (August 16), Skip Panettiere, father of the 36-year-old award-winning actress, announced her unexpected death. He told ABC News:

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”

Panettiere was known for her roles in ‘Remember the Titans, ‘Raising Helen,’ ‘Heroes,’ ’Nashville,’ ‘Ice Princess,’ ‘Bring It On: All Or Nothing,’ ‘Scream,’ and more.

As reports broke, TMZ claimed sources said she recently complained about back pain in the past year. They later updated that law enforcement sources opened an investigation after initially responding to an incident involving the actress.

On Monday (August 17), TMZ updated that a friend inside the Greenville apartment, at Judson Mill Lofts, discovered Panettiere dead and called 911 around 1:51 p.m. It’s unclear if her on-again/off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson placed the call. Emergency Medical Service workers responded to the call, reporting an “unresponsive female” in “cardiac arrest.”

Upon a 1:50 p.m. arrival, first responders initially suspected a drug overdose death. It is now reported by TMZ that responders believed this after finding a used Narcan dispenser at the scene. It is unclear if the actress, or someone else, used the medication — which is administered to reverse the effects of an opioid OD.

Additionally, TMZ noted two ambulances rushed to the scene. EMS workers used “advanced cardiac life support.” This include: CPR with chest compressions, breathing tubes, and heart rhythm monitoring. Medics also administered medication, like Epinephrine, aka adrenaline. It is commonly used to resuscitate patients in cardiac arrest. But sadly, officials couldn’t revive her and pronounced her dead at 2:32 p.m.

On Monday afternoon, TMZ later reported that the Greenville County Coroner’s Office completed an autopsy. The autopsy read, “No signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death. The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and the completion of additional studies.”
