Smith mentioned on First Take that he would address the dinner on his YouTube show, Straight Shooter. Fans quickly criticized him online, pointing out that Trump had previously insulted him publicly.
Trump called Smith an “arrogant fool,” a “low IQ individual,” and a “loudmouth” after Smith criticized him during the NBA Finals.
“Man called you Stupid and you are eating with Him?” one person wrote on X. Others accused Smith of lacking integrity and said they were embarrassed by his decision to attend.
Smith has not yet publicly explained the dinner beyond saying he plans to discuss it on his show.
