A Capitol police officer has passed away from injuries he suffered during Wednesday’s violent riot.
Brian Sicknick, 42, passed away in a hospital on Thursday night from his injuries. In a statement, Capitol Police said that Sicknick had been “injured while physically engaging with protesters,” apparently he was hit with a fire extinguisher.
“Officer Sicknick was responding to the riots on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol and was injured while physically engaging with protesters. He returned to his division office and collapsed. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,” the statement added.

He is now the fifth person to have died from the violent riot that had pro-Trump protesters storm the Capitol building in Washington. Three others died outside in the crowds, while one woman was shot by police as she broke into the building.
According to CNN, Prosecutors in the US Attorney’s office are planning to open a federal murder investigation into his death.
“The entire USCP Department expresses its deepest sympathies to Officer Sicknick’s family and friends on their loss, and mourns the loss of a friend and colleague,” Capitol Police said.
