A woman is facing backlash after she said she plans to send “Don’t Save The Date” cards to people not invited to her wedding.

In a Reddit post, the bride wrote, titled “Bride wants to send ‘you’re not invited to my wedding messages with save the dates,” and asked other users what would be a nice way to inform people that they are not invited to your wedding. “I’m inviting only 14 family members to our September 2024 wedding (multiple reasons, but mainly because of cost and occupancy limit),” she added.

She said she considered including a note letter in her engagement announcement or Save-The-Date cards and welcomed ideas from fellow Redditors. However, the responses were not in her favor, as they felt her idea didn’t reflect proper wedding etiquette. “Imagine getting a Save the Date in the mail with an attached note: “But not really. You can make plans that day, you’re not invited,” one user said.

“I don’t understand why you even need to inform ppl that they are not invited . What’s the point unless you’re gift grabbing, that would be the only reason . Definitely tacky and if I received an announcement telling me I wasn’t invited it would be going to file 13, friendship over,” another Redditor wrote.

“Realistically none of us can invite everyone. If you elope or have a small wedding, announcement cards after can be a nuce way of keeping in touch – as can just letting them know when and if you next talk to them after the wedding. If you don’t talk to someone often enough after the wedding, there’s no reason to single them out and tell them they dont make the cut!”

A similar video went viral on TikTok when a woman revealed that her friend invited her to the wedding ceremony but not the reception, leading to a Twitter debate.

Sending “Save the Date” notices to wedding guests has been around for a long time, although it’s impossible to identify when it became popular.

However, the rise of social media and online wedding planning in the early 2000s is believed to have added to the popularity of Save the Dates. Save the Dates became a popular way to announce wedding dates and generate excitement for the big day as more couples began to share their wedding preparation adventures on social media platforms like Pinterest and Instagram.
