As we previously shared, the couple traveled abroad for the influencer’s 31st birthday on April 5. Two days earlier, McCann — who is best known as the founder and CEO of Asymmetric Financial, a crypto-focused investment firm — proposed. But by April 9, Jenae, born Ashly Robinson, was declared dead. McCann told officials that he found the social media influencer unconscious in her hotel room at the Zuri Zanzibar.

After being rushed to the hospital, she later died. Her death has been listed as a suicide, according to WPVI-TV. In a reported hospital medical record, officials said they found an unidentified mark around Jenae’s neck. The report also reportedly said, “According to the husband, he found she hanged herself on the door.”

WPVI obtained a second hospital’s report. It reportedly claimed Jenae’s “immediate cause of death” as cerebral hypoxia by strangulation and suffocation. Despite the medical reports, Jenae’s family said, “She’s never done anything that would ever ever lead me to believe that she would do something to harm herself like that. She was happy.”

Additionally, Jenae’s family is demanding a full investigation and more direct answers. Jenae’s parents — mother Yolanda Denise Endres and father Harry Robinson — said they haven’t even heard from their daughter’s fiancé since learning of her death…from the hotel, not him. The parents said during the trip, Jenae called them after her engagement. She called to tell them that she and McCann got into an argument. She also shared that hotel staff separated them into two different villas.

The next call was from McCann the following the day. He told the family Jenae “did something to herself and was being taken to the hospital.” He also said she “was stable” and “what happened had been 11 hours prior.” The next call the family received was from the hotel, telling Jenae’s parents that she had died. The parents said her fiancé never called to tell them and has been unreachable ever since.

On Monday (April 13), Jenae’s parents told both CBS News and ABC News that they hadn’t heard from McCann, the consulate, the embassy, or anyone for any updates about their daughter. The parents again spoke with the outlets on Tuesday (April 14) and said nothing has changed as far as hearing back from anyone overseas.

Furthermore, both outlets have now reported that officials have detained McCann and are holding him for questioning. During this time, authorities have also confiscated McCann’s passport.

Meanwhile, Ashlee Jenae’s father has launched a $50,000 GoFundMe campaign to help bury the influencer after her unexpected, sudden death. On the page, the parents wrote:

“Many of you have reached out asking how you can support our family during this unimaginable time, and we are so grateful for the love and prayers. Our beloved daughter, Ashly Robinson, traveled to Zanzibar, Africa to celebrate her 31st birthday and got engaged during what should have been a joyful and memorable trip. Just days later, she was found unconscious in her villa at the Zuri Hotel and was rushed to a local hospital, where her death was confirmed hours later. What was meant to be a dream became our family’s worst nightmare.

As we grieve, we are also navigating an ongoing investigation and the challenges of being thousands of miles away while trying to bring Ashly home with dignity and seek answers. This fund is in response to those asking how to help and will support travel costs, arrangements, and unexpected expenses during this time. Thank you for standing with our family.

– Harry Robinson and Yolanda Denise Endres”
