Console maker Commodore is planning to release a $499 flip phone that blocks all social media platforms and web browsers. The device is built for people who want to disconnect and get back to the basics.

What the Commodore Comeback Offers

The Commodore Comeback keeps things simple. According to Dexerto, the phone includes texting, calling, WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Google Maps, Uber, a music player, and a camera. It also comes loaded with classic Commodore games and ringtones. Social media and web browsers are blocked entirely at the system level.

CEO Peri Fractic explained the vision in a press release. “Social media and browsers are blocked at the system level — designed to be not just school-friendly, but human-friendly. Sorry, social notworking,” he said.

The release coincides with a recent uptick in people looking to unplug from their smartphones altogether — and Commodore is clearly tapping into that growing movement.

Pricing and Preorder Details

Preorders open on June 30. The standard model starts at $499, with a Starlight Edition available for $549.99 and a gold-plated version for $640.00.
