The attempted mugging took place on Dec. 23 at a Walgreens in the Como Park section of St. Paul where an 81-year-old woman was knocked down by a man who tried to snatch her purse. She sustained minor injuries during the attack but police said she didn’t give up her bag or the money. Days after the attack, the mother of 18-year-old Isaiah Jamal Foster contacted police and tipped them off, saying she believes the attacker was her son.

She said she recognized him based on the coat that he was wearing before leaving her house on the day of the attack. ‘She does not trust police officers but wanted to do the right thing. She prayed about it, and turned her son in. She loves her son, but did not raise him like that,’ the criminal complaint reads.
