Woman Accidentally Becomes Her Date’s Getaway Driver

Prosecutors dropped several charges against a Massachusetts woman who accidentally became her date’s getaway driver. The incident occurred in 2016.

According to the Daily Mail, Shelby Sampson was originally charged as an accessory for helping her date Christopher Castillo during a heist at the Bristol County Savings Bank while they were on their first date. Sampson was 40 at the time when she met the then 33-year-old Castillo on a dating app. They met each other for the first time on December 5, 2016, the same day as the robbery.

Castillo asked Sampson to pick him up in her Nissan Altima from his parents’ home in Rhode Island. During their date, Sampson explained to the police that Castillo was drinking wine and asked her to stop the car near a bank in North Attleborough.

After waiting a few minutes, Castillo ran back to the vehicle with a hat and told Sampson to drive off.  She noticed the police lights behind her and stopped the car. During the arrest, Castillo reportedly spat on one of the officers and told them that the gun was not loaded. A DA said during the trial, that Castillo told the bank teller he was “hurting” while demanding $1,000.

On Tuesday, Castillo was sentenced to serve three years in prison for armed robbery additionally with the two years in jail for assaulting the police officers.
