Miami rap legend Uncle Luke has chimed in on the backlash Yung Miami has been receiving over her viral hit “Spend Dat.” All the controversy began as R&B and Neo-Soul India Arie and R&B singer Nicci Gilbert spoke out on social media to condemn Miami’s lyrical content on her apparent song of the Summer.

Gilbert first slammed the lyrics on June 21 and after watching Caresha get a standing ovation at the 2026 BET Awards last Sunday, she hopped back online on July 1.

Meanwhile, India Arie hopped on Threads on June 30 to slam Yung Miami’s song. She replied to someone who was calling for a boycott. While Arie didn’t join in on the call, she joined in on criticizing the track.

Joining fellow Miami rap legend Trick Daddy  — who went completely nuclear on India Arie and Nicci Gilbert — Uncle Luke from the 2 Live Crew is now chiming in.

Uncle Luke, who is no stranger to going live and sharing his honest thoughts on hot topics — told his followers, “They’re just lyrics.” He added:

“So when this girl, India Arie, or whoever the hell it is — listen, I have no problem with these Afrocentric-type people. But, they are always jumping into the conversation of wanting art to be created like their art. If anybody lived in the world of Jill Scott, and all music was Jill Scott, and India Arie, and all Afrocentric, we would be bored as f**k. I’m sorry. I love their music. I appreciate their music. I appreciate they artistical values. But, at the end of the day, why are you having a conversation about something that’s considered as art? Does anybody get all upset when the man is standing up there and people are looking at the sculpture — the art sculpture of that man with his genitals out? Nobody has nothing to say about that. But then it’s always us. It’s always Black on Black crime. It’s always Black on Black crime. You never hear them talking about each other. You never hear the White women talk about the White men. You never hear the White artists talk about another White artist. Anybody? Where is it?”
