The reunion we were all waiting for is officially on pause. Our GOAT, Serena Williams, just broke the news that she has to pull out of the Wimbledon doubles tournament alongside her sister Venus.

The legendary duo was set to light up the grass courts together for the first time since 2022, but a nasty knee injury is forcing Serena to sit this one out, leaving fans completely devastated.

Serena tweaked her right knee during a grueling, three-set singles match against Maya Joint earlier in the week. Despite fighting hard for over two hours, the 44-year-old icon came up short and unfortunately did some serious damage to her joint. She took to Instagram to show her followers the reality of the situation, sharing a video of her limping with a heavily wrapped leg, plus some straight-up shocking photos of syringes filled with fluid that doctors had to drain from her knee.

Serena made it clear how much it hurt to make this call. “I’m heartbroken to have to withdraw from doubles. Coming back to compete again has been a gift, and the opportunity to play alongside Venus once more meant the world to me,” she shared in her emotional post. “I did everything I could to be ready, but unfortunately my knee just isn’t ready to compete.”

While this brings an abrupt end to her Wimbledon run, you already know the Queen isn’t down for the count. Showing that classic Williams resilience, she laughed off the hospital photos, calling the fluid-filled syringes a big “yikes!” but reassured her community that the swelling is under control.

She also left her supporters with a major hint that this isn’t the final chapter, signing off with a message to keep our eyes open: “All I can say is stay tuned to a city near you.”

With the US Open right around the corner in August, it looks like Serena is already plotting her next bounce-back.
