UFC Fighter Josh Hokit does not regret calling former First Lady Michelle Obama a man. While refusing to issue an apology, Hokit instead praises freedom of speech and laughingly claims he was just giving her a compliment for all of her hard work.

Hokit previously made headlines during President Donald Trump’s “UFC Freedom 250” event held on the White House South Lawn on June 14. After securing a technical knockout victory over veteran fighter Derrick Lewis, Hokit turned his historic moment into a bashing session. As host Joe Rogan held a microphone in front of Hokit, he grabbed onto it and said:

“Hey, shout out to Trump, for having the b*lls to put some sh*t like this on. And if I’m gonna say anything, there’s only one person more incredible than the Incredible Hulk and that’s y Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ … And lastly, Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?”

While the White House refused to comment on the incident, video of President Donald Trump went viral, showing him smiling after Hokit’s comments. Meanwhile, UFC President and CEO Dana White condemned Hokit’s Michelle Obama comment. In a text message to Time Magazine, White wrote:

“I understand that the Obamas are public figures but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families. Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense.”

Since his explosive comment about Michelle Obama, Josh Hokit is now speaking out. While appearing on a recent episode of the ‘The Ariel Helwani Show,’ Hokit said:

“I thought I was giving her a compliment. Michelle Obama being a man. It’s like, she knows how to deal with adversity. She knows how to work hard like a man when the times get tough. I thought it was a perfect opportunity to show the world how great this country is with freedom of speech. You go somewhere [else in the world], and you say something like that, and you die. And I’m not suicidal, by the way. I’m in good spirits. I’m a little under the weather right now, but other than that, I’m good. And so in other parts of the world, you say something like that, and you’re not here to speak to Ariel Helwani, you know. So yeah, I don’t know there’s a ways — there’s a few answers to that. There’s a certain side that pokes at another side, and there’s no outrage there, and so I thought it was a perfect time to take a jab… You’ll never hear me backtrack from what I say.”
