On Sunday afternoon, a Garland Texas father was forced into a life-or-death moment when a man tried to carjack his vehicle, with his whole family inside! Not just him, but a car full of loved ones. And what started as chaos in a parking lot ended with the father doing what he felt he had to do to protect his people.

According to police, this wasn’t some random one-off attempt. The suspect had already been out there causing havoc, reportedly crashing into two other vehicles before hopping out and going after more cars nearby Highway 66 and Dairy Road. Witnesses say he was moving erratic, going from car to car, trying doors and forcing his way in.

Surveillance video captured the moment things escalated. The man approached a vehicle carrying a family of eight and tried to force his way inside. That’s when things turned deadly. During the struggle, the father pulled a gun and shot the attacker, killing him on the scene.

Police backed that up, saying the suspect’s behavior was aggressive from the start. Lt. Pedro Barineau explained how quickly everything spiraled.

“While we were responding to the scene, we received more information that the driver of that car had exited and immediately began physically trying to get into other vehicles in the parking lot,” said Lt. Pedro Barineau, Fox 4 quotes.

Authorities say they do not expect to file any charges against him. From everything they’ve gathered, it looks like self-defense in a situation that unfolded in seconds.

They also confirmed that no weapon was found on him, but in that moment, the father had no way of knowing that. All he saw was a man using force, coming at his family. And when it comes down to it, he reacted like a lot of parents would when their kids are in danger, no hesitation, just protection.
