Scott Shuster moved to Richmond, Texas, in 2018 and started fiddling with the app, stating he’s found a glitch in the configuration. After his discovery, multiple people in his neighborhood accused him of stealing their phones. He told ABC13 that people would show up to his home demanding their iPhones or Airpods back, and he would explain that he didn’t steal their devices. ‘I have to wake up, answer the door, and tell people I don’t have their devices. And people don’t tend to believe you,’ he explained to the outlet.

He works as a software engineer and fears for the safety of his two children, aged 7 and 9. ‘There’s plenty of irrational people in the world. And if they’re angry, if they’re drunk if they have had a rough night – that’s my biggest concern. Potentially someone could come to the house with a weapon,’ said the software engineer.

‘Well, the cops are on the way, so you may want to talk to me before they come here,”

Police have issued warnings to iPhone users who want to find their devices by approaching people at their homes and trying to get them back from thieves. Apple has yet to comment on the concerning configuration of the app.

Apple introduced the “Find My iPhone” feature in June 2010 as part of the iOS 4 update. The feature was designed to help users locate their lost or stolen iPhones by using the phone’s GPS and internet connectivity to track its location. Over time, the feature has been expanded to include other Apple devices, such as iPads and Macs, and has been renamed “Find My.”

Like any software, it is possible for the “Find My” app to experience glitches or errors. However, Apple regularly updates the app and its associated services to address any issues and improve its overall functionality.

That being said, there have been some reported issues with the “Find My” app in the past, such as incorrect location information, slow or unresponsive tracking, and difficulty accessing the service. However, these types of issues are typically rare and may be related to factors such as poor internet connectivity, outdated software, or other technical issues.

If you are experiencing issues with the “Find My” app, it is recommended that you ensure that your device and the app are up-to-date with the latest software updates, and that you have a strong internet connection. You can also try restarting your device or resetting the app to see if this resolves the issue. If the problem persists, you may want to contact Apple Support for further assistance.

Here are the steps to use the Find My iPhone app:

  • Open the “Find My” app on your iPhone.
  • Tap on the “Me” tab at the bottom of the screen.
  • Scroll down to “Location History” and tap on it.
  • If prompted, enter your Apple ID and password.
  • You should now see a map with the location history of your iPhone displayed.

Please note that in order for your iPhone’s location history to be available, you must have had the “Find My” feature enabled and your iPhone must have been connected to the internet. Additionally, location history is only available for up to 24 hours.
