Gotta catch ’em all” took on a whole new meaning for one man in Pasadena, California. While dedicated fans were camping out on the sidewalk for the latest Pokémon trading card drop, a man allegedly decided that being first in line wasn’t enough—he wanted to be first in the building.

Caught On Camera

The “stealth mission” came to an abrupt end around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. According to local authorities, Best Buy employees monitoring a live security feed spotted a mysterious figure wandering through the darkened aisles of the store located on the 3400 block of East Foothill Boulevard.

Pasadena police arrived on the scene and, with the help of an employee who provided a key, entered the building to find 45-year-old Patrick Keys inside.

The Master Plan?

Police noted that there were no signs of forced entry, leading investigators to believe that Keys tucked himself away in a clever hiding spot before the store closed for the evening.

While dozens of fans were huddled in tents outside in anticipation of the new “Chaos Rising” (or Mega Evolution — Ascended Heroes) set, Keys was allegedly waiting in the wings to snag the stock before the doors even opened.
