The shooting occurred after Mitarius Boyd,21, reported witnessing 34-year-old Travonsha Ferguson and another individual shoplifting from the store and confronted them at the store’s parking lot around 8 p.m. Boyd told police that he witnessed the two women loading a large bag and store cart with items from the store then exiting without paying. While approaching the women as they unloaded the cart, one of them pulled out a can of mase and sprayed Boyd, as reported by WKRN.

Boyd drew his semi-automatic weapon and began shooting at the supposed shoplifters, striking Ferguson several times. According to investigators, Ferguson was seven months pregnant when she was shot, and Boyd told them he was concerned because he didn’t know if the women were armed.

After the shooting, the women jumped into their car and drove to the nearest hospital. Ferguson’s associate dropped her off at General Hospital and drove off. She underwent an emergency C-section to save her child, and medics said the bullets miraculously missed the baby. Both were listed in critical but stable condition.

This is not the first time Boyd has been involved in an altercation. According to a report by Scoop Nashville, Boyd was reportedly jailed over disruption at a Nashville Best Buy and argued with an employee who told him there was no PlayStation 5’s in stock. He confronted several other employees until a general manager approached him. The general manager, Jason Connally, told Boyd to leave due to his disruptive behavior, but he refused and demanded to see the store’s policy.

“On 10/26/2022 at 1127 hours, Officers were dispatched to 2311 Gallatin Pike N in response to the defendant refusing to leave the location. The General Manager of the Best Buy location, Jason Connally, stated that he asked the defendant to leave the store after an argument over a PlayStation 5 system. The general manager stated that the defendant was being loud and disrupting the business when Best Boy employees advised him there was no PlayStation 5 in stock. Several store employees asked the defendant to leave the store several times. On arrival, Officers asked the defendant to leave the premises several times. The defendant refused to leave the location and was still disorderly in the presence of officers. He said he wasn’t leaving until he saw the store’s policy in the paper. The defendant was given the option to leave the store, or he would be arrested. The defendant was still verbally arguing with officers after his options were given, and he was taken into custody shortly after that.
