An Egyptian health ministry official said in a statement that the extreme weather took place in the city of Aswan, causing heavy rain, hail, and dust storms in the region near the Nile River. It also caused scorpions and snakes to leave their nests and seek shelter in human homes.

According to Insider, Egypt is home to the fat-tailed scorpion, one of the deadliest scorpion species in the world. In the aftermath of the storm, hundreds of people were rushed to local hospitals for treatment, and health officials provided anti-venom medication to medical centers in nearby villages. Doctors were also sent from COVID-19 vaccination sites to assist with the scorpion stings.

Residents have been urged to stay away from places with a lot of trees and were told to stay at home. Aside from the animal attacks, many areas were left without power as the storm caused power cuts and lighting columns to fall onto the street.

The weather is reportedly supposed to last for another 24 hours as reported by the Egyptian Meteorological Authority.
