Samuel L. Jackson Receives Honorary Oscar From Denzel Washington At The Governors Awards

Samuel L. Jackson received an honorary Oscar Friday night from Denzel Washington at the annual Governors Awards for his achievements in Hollywood.

Throughout his entire film career, Samuel L.Jackson never received an Oscar, Denzel Washington reminded the audience during his speech that night. Washington also acknowledged that Jackson’s 152 films grossed over $27 billion in total, making him the only actor to ever achieve this milestone in their lifetime. His philanthropic efforts were also mentioned during the presentation with Washington ending the speech saying: “That’s what *he’s* been doing… I don’t know what *y’all* been doing…”

After receiving his award, Jackson said he received the call last year that he would be receiving the lifetime achievement award from the Academy and called it “unexpected.”

“When I got this call last year, it was unexpected, but I guarantee you, this thing is gonna be cherished.”

Jackson thanked his wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and said the award was a shared effort.

“You allowed me to indulge my work habit to excess a lot of times at the expense of your own ambitions. This award is a shared effort.”
