Revolt Summit 2022: Jason Lee Talks With NeNe Leakes, Amber Rose, & Ray J, About Whether Or Not Cancel Culture Is Real

A great conversation went down on Saturday, September, 24, at the 2022 Revolt Summit in Atlanta, Georgia. Hollywood Unlocked CEO Jason Lee moderated the panel with featured panelists Amber Rose, NeNe Leakes and Ray J who all had an in-depth discussion about the future of cancel culture.

The conversation kicked off with a question that many continue to go back-and-forth on: Is cancel culture even real? While Amber Rose was the first to dive in and give her answer, saying that she doesn’t think it is, Nene Leakes who has previously claimed she was blackballed from the industry during her legal battle with Bravo, said she ultimately realized that can’t be canceled no matter how hard people try, simply because she is the Nene Leakes.

Ray J on the other hand didn’t hold back when sharing his experience with people trying to cancel him or paint him in a bad light. As Jason asked Ray about the recent headlines that he’s been in with ex-girlfriend Kim Kardashian over their infamous sex tape, the reality star and entrepreneur recalled his 2013 song “I Hit It First” while breaking down the double standard of the cancel movement. He explained, the track wasn’t event a jab at his past relationship but more of a celebration, but unfortunately people didn’t take it that way: “I never said nothing negative. I stated facts and we was having fun…as crazy as that sounds,” he said. Ray went on to compare his moment to when Kanye West released his song “Famous” years later where Ye rapped, “I feel like Amber Rose still owe me sex. Why? I made that b**ch famous, not really, but somewhat famous.”

Ray said, “There’s another song that another rapper did that I heard. I think that he had something slick to say about you (looking at Amber Rose) and all that stuff back in the day … But b**ch came out 50 times in the song. ‘You b**ch this, you b**tch that’ and it was poppin’ in the club,” he added. “So, I’m trying to understand how does one song that’s on the surface is like the worst s**t in the world? But then, a song that really has substance, and negativity, and disrespect, that’s all good? I’m not complaining, I’m just stating facts. I don’t know, I don’t have the answers.”

Ultimately he apologized for even making the song and went on to say that he’s just trying to move forward and stay positive… especially during his latest battle with the Kardashian family.

“I’m fighting for my truth. I just want to live in my truth. You know what I’m saying? Whatever happens on the other side of whatever, just give me my truth. And if everybody can continue to make money, then fine. I don’t care. I just want a clean slate,” Ray said.
