Mackayla “Kash” Paige, a 29-year-old face from The Now That’s TV’s reality lineup, was shot and killed in downtown Oakland in the early hours of Sunday, October 11, and a video, which we will not share, tied to the incident has sadly been making its rounds online.

According to KTVU, officers found the victim on the 200 block of 14th Street after responding to the shooting shortly after 1:30 a.m., and she was taken to a local hospital and died after lifesaving measures were attempted. Police have not named her publicly, but Now That’s TV identified her as Paige, a Richmond resident who appeared on Young & Reckless, RoomH8z, and Real West Coast Baddies. Her family has also confirmed her identity.

Oakland police arrested another Richmond woman in connection with the shooting, but they have not identified her or offered a possible motive. Video shows a fight breaking out before someone tries to intervene with a gun and ultimately ended up shooting Kash. As of right now, investigators have not detailed what exactly led up to the gunfire.

The internet, as usual, has been running faster than the facts. Posts claim Paige was caught up in a fight when the gun went off, and some say the shooter was someone close to her. Outlets reporting on those rumors note the claims are unverified, and it remains unclear at this time.

Just hours before she was killed, Paige had posted Instagram Stories of herself having a good time Saturday night. Anybody who has ever posted a fit check or a night out knows how ordinary that moment feels, and how brutal it is to look back on it now.

Loved ones described Paige as “larger than life,” and they gathered near the scene on Sunday to build a makeshift memorial. Candles, flowers, and messages on a downtown Oakland sidewalk say what a press release never could. Now That’s TV also weighed in, with a tribute post on Instagram calling her death heartbreaking.

Oakland police have not released additional details, and the investigation remains open. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Oakland Police Department. We will keep watching for updates on charges, the suspect’s identity, and any arrangements for Paige’s family.

Rest in power, Kash.
