Stephen A. Smith is “sincerely apologizing” to Teyana Taylor and her ex-husband Iman Shumpert, admitting he shared “inaccurate information” about their divorce settlement. However, as he does so, Ray J chimes in to defend Shumpert — his “college” buddy. In 2024, Shumpert and Taylor officially divorced after a decade together. Their divorce wasn’t easy as it constantly made headlines.
Even a year later as Smith, a sports and media commentator, ended up chiming in on the former NBA player’s divorce from the singer and actress. During an October 2026 episode of his ‘The Culture Table Podcast’ — which has since been taken down — Smith and his co-hosts debated the topic: “Can Men Trust Women With Their Finances?”
On October 10, Smith took to his personal and his Straight Shooter Media YouTube channel to “set the record straight” on his “inaccurate information” shared on the show. Smith said:
“In the interest of fairness, accuracy, and decency, I believe it’s important to address what happened in connection with an October episode of The Culture Table titled ‘Can Men Trust Women with Their Finances?’ During that episode, I stated that Teyana Taylor walked away from her divorce with $25 million, $10 million in properties, luxury cars, and other assets, while Iman Shumpert, her ex husband, was left with approximately $2 million and nowhere to live. Those statements were inaccurate, and I want to sincerely apologize to both Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor. The quotes attributed to him, however, were not his statements at all, and the financial figures presented were inaccurate. know this for a fact because I personally spoke to Teyana Taylor, who verified herself that the information circulating out there is patently false. Straight Shooter Media and I, as the CEO, have a responsibility to ensure that information presented is properly sourced. We didn’t meet that standard here. Plain and simple. I have personally apologized to both Iman and Teyana.”

On Sunday morning (October 11), Ray J slammed Stephen A. Smith. He said:
“So, look. Stephen A. Smith. There you go, barking up another n***a’s sh*t again, bro. I don’t bother you ‘cause I be doing my sh*t. It’s 98 percent of sh*t I don’t agree with, ‘cause you doing it to please some kind of, like, situation. But, don’t you ever talk about Iman, n***a. You have no idea what’s going on. Just ‘cause she told you something doesn’t mean that you got you one side out of a story. Slow down and stand down, n***a. Iman [is] the homie. We went to college together bro.”

When a woman standing next Ray asked, “You went to college?” Ray confirmed, “I went to College Hill.” She said, “Ohhh.” He shook his head and confidently whispered, “Yeah.” Meanwhile, the woman and another man in the back cackled at Ray as he looked in disgust. When he looked back at the camera, Ray said:
“But, what I’m telling you bro, bro, you barking up the wrong tree, n***a. I’ve been taking it lightly. I took down the little post I did when Cam Newton’s team told me to, because it wasn’t ok. But, I got another one so cold for you. Since you so insensitive.”
