On Friday (October 9), Tyson was first spotted in Washington, D.C. at the White House. He was captured walking alongside the president and even inside the briefing room, speaking with press about his appearance. He confirmed that the president called him and he showed up. Tyson also said that he would be present at the rally in upstate New York later that night.

While speaking with press, Tyson also revealed who he believes will win in the looming midterm elections. When asked if he thought the Republicans would defeat the Democrats, Tyson instead replied, “I believe Donald Trump is gonna win” the midterms. To note, Trump is not on the ballot.

Before the duo left for Syracuse, Donald Trump joked about standing alongside Mike Tyson, one of boxing’s most feared and fearless fighters. He said, “I won’t be fighting him today. We’ve been friends for a long time.” Their relationship dates all the way back to the 1980s. This is when Trump hosted boxing events featuring Tyson at his resort casinos in Atlanta City, New Jersey.

Since then, their relationship has extended to involve advocacy for cannabis. Tyson’s advocacy took a turn in June 2025. At the time, he joined former NBA star Kevin Durant and other athletes in pushing the White House to implement federal reform on marijuana.

Following Tyson and Trump’s rendezvous at the White House, they landed in Syracuse later that night. Tyson appeared at the rally in Syracuse. The former heavyweight champion joined Trump after calling for federal marijuana rescheduling and clemency for nonviolent offenders.

When Trump welcomed him on to the stage, Tyson praised the president, calling him, “My president.” He also said he wouldn’t be there if it weren’t for Trump.
