The executive order comes as a surprise to federal workers who usually work a half-day on Christmas Eve. The executive order reads, “All executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed and their employees excused from duty on Thursday, December 24, 2020, the day before Christmas Day.”

Years before his decision, former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton would only give half days to federal employees if Christmas fell on a Friday as reported by the New York Post.
