Police Investigating Death of Man Who Drank Chloroquine To Preve

Arizona police have opened an investigation into the death of a 68-year-old man who consumed chloroquine phosphate to prevent the coronavirus after the President said it could potentially help against COVID-19.

The Washington Free Beacon reports that Gary Lenius passed away March 22  when he and his wife, Wanda, drank a mixture of soda and the chemical.  Chloroquine is usually used to clean fish tanks, but Trump said it could be a potential cure for the virus,

According to the report, Lenius became ill and suffered “immediate effects”  30 minutes after consuming his drink. he was quickly taken to the hospital. 61-year-old Wanda also became sick, but luckily she recovered.

Despite, both parties taking the chemical, Lenius’ loved-ones became suspicious, citing a rocky relationship between the two.

“What bothers me about this is that Gary was a very intelligent man, a retired (mechanical) engineer who designed systems for John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa, and I really can’t see the scenario where Gay would say, ‘Yes, please, I would love to drink some of that Koi fish tank cleaner,’” a friend told the outlet. “It just doesn’t make sense.”

The investigation is currently ongoing,

“As this is an active investigation, I cannot go into any details at this time regarding the case,” said Detective Teresa Van Galder said. The Free Beacon provided a recording of its interview last month with Wanda Lenius.
