During an interview at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Dallas on Thursday, Schnatter discussed his time at the company before being removed for using the n-word. He said his conservative views led to the franchise becoming one of the top pizza chains in the country. “We built the whole company on conservative values. Conservative ideology has two of the most critical attributes: truth and God.  If you run your life on principle… you’re going to win,” he explained.

Schnatter claims since his departure from the company, Papa John’s has been in the same competitive market as Lil Caesar’s. In a November 2021 interview, he called the public outrage against his racist comments “a crucifixion” and said it was “unethical.”

He said he was set up as the Laundry Services CEO, an advertising company that works with Papa John’s, as they recorded their phone conversation so he could embarrass him later. Schnatter believes the racially charged questions during a conference call were a way to have the public see him as something he’s not.

,“What bothers me is Colonel Sanders called Blacks’*****,I’m like, I’ve never used that word.”

After his departure in 2019, Schnatter launched a website titled “Save Papa Johns,” which featured a letter describing his views on the company’s board member’s decision and other factors.

“The Board wants to silence me. So this is my website, and my way to talk to you. As I said in a recent letter, I miss you all very much. More than words can express! Papa John’s is our life’s work and we will all get through this together somehow, some way.”

There were also reports of Schnatter eating 40 pizzas within a month and various TikTok videos of his home. However, Schnatter later denied these claims while appearing on the H3 podcast with host Ethan Klein.

“When I said I had a pizza, it means I’m inspecting. I’m not eating every pizza. I may be eating parts of pizzas.”
