A Georgia mother was taken into custody after authorities said she left her 1-year-old locked in a dirty closet for hours while making DoorDash deliveries.

The child’s grandmother, Robin Lucas called the Columbia County sheriff’s department and told them how she fears her grandson was locked in an apartment by himself. The child’s father Miles Lucas also told police that this wasn’t the first time the mother, Shania Sebastian would leave the child alone. After receiving the tip deputies went to the house and knocked on the door but didn’t get a response. Columbia County firefighters ended up climbing a ladder and got onto the back patio and noticed that a door was unlocked.

Once authorities searched the house they found the toddler sleep in the closet. According to the report, it was tons of trash in the closet and a lot of smaller items on the floor that the baby could’ve choked on. First responders examined the child and found he had several small bruises on his body and what appeared to be fecal matter in one of his ears.

Authorities said the whole apartment was covered in trash, animal feces and dirty diapers and said the apartment smelled like feces and urine.

The mother was also a cat owner. The report says, the cats were locked in a bedroom without any water to drink and the front door was covered with cat feces.

A bird was found in a closet with bird feces covering the walls and floor, according to the report. A pitbull was found roaming the apartment. There was also dog feces on the floor. An animal control officer arrived to the scene and took possession of the animals.

Following the mother leaving the child stranded, the child will now be placed in the custody of his grandmother.

Once the mother arrived to the police station and questioned about her actions. She reportedly said, she didn’t feel comfortable bringing her child with her to do the DoorDash deliveries because the ride wouldn’t have been good for spine while sitting in the car seat.

“Shania showed no remorse for her actions and was only concerned about what happened to her animals,” officers said in the report. “Shania never asked about (the child) or his condition.”

She’s been charged with first-degree cruelty to children and first-degree cruelty to animals.
