Montel Williams is weighing in on Kamala Harris’ 2024 election loss to Donald Trump.
During a recent appearance on the On Par with Maury Povich podcast this Monday, July 6, the 70-year-old TV host admitted, “I didn’t think it was gonna work out,” regarding the former vice president’s presidential bid. While he noted it wasn’t just about Harris, Williams pointed to a specific hurdle: “I think the lateness of the campaign was what really, really, really hurt her.” He added, “However, I think that there was a lot of misconception about who she was and who she is — one of the smartest people I think I’ve ever met in my life, and I give her credit for that.”

Despite his high praise for her intellect, Williams believes the odds were stacked against her from the start. “Could she have done a good job? Without a doubt,” he said. “But I think circumstances and timing were all bad.”
Ultimately, Williams suggested that the country’s social climate was the deciding factor, claiming that America isn’t ready for a female president. “Anybody out there who thinks that America is gonna elect a woman in the next four or five years, you are crazy,” he stated. “I don’t care what woman it is. I’m just gonna say that. And you know, maybe that makes people angry.”
Williams and Harris famously dated back in 2001. Since their split, both have moved on; Harris married Doug Emhoff in 2014, while Williams married Tara Fowler in 2007.
