Eeeeyuckk!! A representative for spice and seasonings brand McCormick & Company is responding after a woman found maggots inside a brand new bottle of sesame seeds — a bottle whose contents aren’t due to expire until 2028.
On Thursday (August 20), the woman — identified as ‘Beyond The Gates’ actress Ernestine Johnson Morrison — took to her Instagram and shared a video of her findings.
Morrison captioned the post, “@publix @mccormickspice who’s responsible for this?!” In the video, she showed off the small bottle of McCormick Sesame Seeds that had a best by date of January 6, 2028. In the video, Morrison said:
“So, Publix and/or McCormick, count your days. I just bought these sesame seeds, as you can see. Still unopened. Lid’s still on. Look close. What do y’all see? Maggots. Maggots crawling around, still alive. Look at that one, moving. Maggots inside of the sesame seeds. This, as you can see, the expiration date is January ’28. It’s not for another two years. Gross.”

After Morrison’s post went viral, a McCormick representative, identified as “Ash, responded. On Friday (August 21), the rep commented under Morrison’s post. The statement read:
“Hello @mrsernestinemorrison, thank you for bringing this to our attention. Food quality and safety are very important to us. Please send us a DM with your contact information that way we can better assist you. ~Ash.”
On Sunday (August 23), Morrison replied to the comment and again slammed the brand. She said, “@mccormickspice still have not heard from you. Sent DM.”
