Many people can agree that LSU star Flau’jae Johnson is talented on and off the court. The 19-year-old basketball champion who’s also a new rapper recently dropped a new remix to Latto’s track, “Put It On Da Floor,” which has been making its rounds online.
While she spits a couple of hard rhymes, there’s one line in particular that’s sparking a bit of controversy on Twitter. In the music video which has since been scrubbed from YouTube, Flau’jae raps, “I know they sour, in this 9/11 blowing smoke just like them towers.” Those who caught wind of the rap have been criticizing the star on social media.

One person said, “Take a bow @LSUwbkb. A player on your team mocked those who died on 9/11 by comparing it to a Porsche. Disgusting. I know people who still struggle to sleep at night because of what they did in war after 9/11. She thinks it’s a joke.” Another said, “Wow. Just wow. Schools and parents fail these kids.”
LSU caught wind of the backlash and released a statement to Fox News Digital/OutKick on Tuesday. It read: “We spoke with Flau’jae this evening, and while she never intended to offend or upset anyone with her lyrics, she expressed sincere remorse for any possibility of a misunderstanding and immediately took the video down. We will learn and grow from this experience together.”
Like the saying goes, “you live and you learn,” and we’re she will from this.
More On Flau’jae Johnson
The athlete has been making tons of headlines after she helped the Louisiana State University Tigers women’s team win its first championship by beating the University of Iowa 102-85 earlier this year.
As amazing as that was, Johnson who is also following in the footsteps of her late father Jason Johnson, also known by his rap pseudonym Camoflauge — has signed to Jay-Z’s record label Roc Nation. Johnson started rapping when she was in middle school and now has 17,489 monthly listeners on Spotify, as well over 144,000 subscribers on YouTube. She previously teased on Instagram an upcoming song collaboration with the famous DJ and record producer, DJ Khaled. “Wow, God Doing His Big One…” Johnson wrote. “Flaujae X @djkhaled coming soon.”
According to Sporting News, she has a lot to celebrate this year. With her name, image and likeness, deals have only boosted her credentials, as she’s currently ranked the fourth-highest valued women’s basketball player at $669,000 annually.
As she continues her path to greatness, Flau’jae Johnson’s legacy will be cemented in her hometown of Savannah this summer, as the state legislature decided to name an intersection after her. Carl Gilliard, the District 162 State Representative caught one of Johnson’s songs where she talks about positive change within the community.
In response to that, Gillard chose a resolution that would name the intersection of Abercorn Street and West Montgomery Cross Road after Johnson. According to the resolution, the new name will be the Flau’jae Johnson Intersection.

“I watched her as a young lady grow up giving back to the community,” Gillard explained. “Salvaging her time doing the Keep Savannah Beautiful Campaign [and] feeding people with positive energy, and the most positive thing is her music.”
A special ceremony for the dedication will be planned later this summer.
